There are two ways of planning ahead - one where you actually pre-pay for your funeral, combining this with specifying the type of funeral you want if required, or another where you make an 'Expression of Wishes' which just involves you in giving guidance to your family about the kind of funeral you want and leaving specific instructions regarding, for example, the music or readings. Both of these options can be a real help to your family.
Please do be aware, however, when making out an 'Expression of Wishes', it is best not to be too prescriptive. Perhaps provide one or two alternatives in case your ideal can't be achieved for whatever reason. What you don't want is for your family to feel that they have let you down at the very end.
Always remember to inform a family member and your solicitor that you have made arrangements either to pre-pay for your funeral and/or have made an 'Expression of Wishes'. Your solicitor or funeral director will usually be happy to hold a copy of your instructions until required.
To request information on either of these options then please do call us. We will be happy to forward further information or arrange a meeting to talk things through with you.
