Not only is Christmas looking very different this year but the way we are paying tribute to our lost loved ones will also be more ‘virtual’ to fall in line with ongoing social distancing. Whilst it is heartening to see many churches opening their doors to the public once more, there will inevitably still be vulnerable people shielding who feel unable to leave their homes.
Light Up A Life is a series of special events that take place around the UK during November and December each year organized by the Hospice movement to help families and friends come together to remember and celebrate the lives of loved ones. 2020 has been a tough year for everyone and although government restrictions mean the usual services will not be possible, we completely understand the importance of Light Up A Life and the significance it holds for many.
So this year a virtual event will be broadcast online at 7pm on Thursday 10 December which you can join from wherever suits you. A host of staff, volunteers and local celebrities will be reading poems, singing carols and also enjoying a time of reflection where nursing staff will read out the names of those to be remembered.
Locally, Tovey Bros is sponsoring this year’s virtual service for St David’s Hospice Care. Please note that if anyone would like a name read out, this needs to be given to St David’s by 1 December via the link below.
James Tovey, of Tovey Bros, said: ‘’In the years that we have supported Light up a Life, we have witnessed how much comfort families receive by participating. It will be very different this year, as a virtual service, but we are pleased to support this initiative and we hope that families find it helpful.’’
